2 Envisioning the Borrower Experience "Mortgage servicing technology has taken some giant leaps in the last year," writer Phil Britt proclaims in the opening to this month's cover story "Protecting Borrowers rough Tech." Britt goes on to share the new tools servicers are using to connect with borrowers, and one thing is sure—IT will be used to target borrowers who may be at risk of default, and then help them correct that path, and this trend won't be slowing down anytime soon. Of course, it's impossible to envision the future without a clear idea of where we've been—the good and the bad—which is what Equifax executive Craig Crabtree explores in "A Decade Unlike Any Other." In this retrospective of the last 10 years, Crabtree explores what led to the Great Recession, in tandem with the many ways we are now stronger because of the lessons learned. Along a similar theme, WeatherCheck's Demetrius Gray also takes a look back at what changes have impacted the industry since 2008, but this time concerning lender-placed insurance. His article, "Insuring Against Collapse," tracks the latest rules that may soon take effect as result of the movement to self-correct that followed the financial meltdown. Next, since looking ahead in the short-term is as important as in the long-term, Green River Capital's Andrew Oliverson prepares REO managers for seasonal fluctuations in "Saying Hello to Summer." Lastly, don't forget to put all you have learned about utilizing tech into action by choosing a trusted service provider from our "Risk Management & Due Diligence Guide." As you finish up this issue, you may wonder if the day will soon come when gadgets like Alexa are as synonymous with paying your mortgage as the ATM is with getting cash—while we can't be sure, we know it will be an exciting ride.
