All other data courtesy of Lender Processing Services. 134 Veterans Find Assistance with National Organization Coinciding with Veteran's Day in November, NeighborWorks America announced its commitment to helping veterans find affordable home solutions long past the day designated on the calendar for honoring the nation's military heroes. "We know the many sacrifices veterans have made and the economic challenges they face when they return to civilian life," said NeighborWorks America CEO Eileen Fitzgerald. "Our NeighborWorks organizations are ensuring that veterans have the resources and tools to improve their lives." NeighborWorks organizations served more than 860 veterans in fiscal year 2011 alone, offering foreclosure mitigation counseling to more than 430, and they've had a lasting impact on America's veterans in areas across the country. In Miami, Neighborhood Housing Services of South Florida, a NeighborWorks network organization, partnered with Carrfour Supportive Housing to provide services to vets. Some of the services include financial literacy education, one-on-one housing counseling, credit counseling, homebuyer education, and foreclosure intervention. Over in Tucson, Arizona, NeighborWorks organization the Primavera Foundation has launched "Project Action for Veterans." The staff gives customized support to veterans and their families, providing assistance with monthly budgeting, veterans' benefits, and job readiness. In addition, the program provides housing assistance as well as vocational support for homeless veterans. And in Poughkeepsie, New York, NeighborWorks member Hudson River Housing launched the Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF) program, which is funded by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. The program aims to promote housing stability among very low-income veteran families who reside in or are transitioning to permanent housing. Some of the services include VA benefits assistance and helping vets find local resources for housing. Based in Washington D.C., NeighborWorks America consists of more than 235 independent, community-based nonprofit organizations serving more than 4,500 communities nationwide throughout all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico.
