How Much Is Too Much? The country is embracing the change that a new year brings, but some think the current administration should revisit some of the changes made in the last few years—particularly the restrictions placed on the housing market. Are they stifling recovery or bolstering it? With Dave Liniger and Ivy Zelman « C O N T R Dave Liniger is the visionary leader of RE/MAX, the Denver-based global real estate franchise he co-founded with his wife, Gail, in 1973. Liniger is respected internationally for his vast knowledge of the real estate industry and influence on housing policy. At the height of the recession, Liniger pushed for reform that would help speed housing recovery; many of his recommendations were adopted. He is widely credited with improving conditions for real estate agents by creating a unique business model combining the maximum commission concept with a host of support services. Liniger is a major advocate of advanced training and education – and, as a result, RE/ MAX agents are the most productive in the industry. 56 I B U T O R S » Ivy Zelman is CEO of Zelman & Associates. She has more than 20 years' experience covering housing and housing-related industries. Before founding Zelman & Associates in October 2007, she worked at Credit Suisse Group for 10 years, the last eight years as a managing director. During her tenure there, she established herself as the leading industry source for housing-related research. Prior to Credit Suisse, she worked at Salomon Brothers from 1990 to 1997. She graduated from George Mason University in 1990 while working full-time at Ernst & Young in Virginia. For the past 18 years, she has been recognized by Institutional Investor as one of the most preeminent figures in the industry.
