2 A Matter of Perspective Hollywood has made use of a trick called "forced perspective" for nearly as long as they've been making movies at all. By positioning a prop, actor, or set closer or further away from the camera than other objects in its view, an optical illusion can make a tiny object appear huge or a huge object, tiny. Even beyond the silver screen, so many things in life come down to perspective. With our December issue, we find ourselves re-examining our perspective as one year ends and another is at our doorstep. What have we learned? What challenges loom ahead? In short: what perspective have we gained? In our cover story, "e Skies Ahead," DS News' David Wharton speaks to a cross-section of experts to gain that perspective on where the industry stands at the precipice of 2019. After a year of soaring home prices, lagging inventory, and significant government legislation, how should servicers and other companies be working to build a better future in the months to come? Next, Equifax's Gunnar Blix and Jenn Henry explore what the latest data and analysis reveal about how the housing market will perform in 2019. Is the market headed for a case of "e Housing Slump Blues"? With natural disasters such as hurricanes and wildfires impacting markets around the country each year, how should REO managers prepare before and after disaster strikes? at's the question Green River Capital's Andrew Oliverson explores in his feature "In Case of Emergency." In "After the Dust Settles," DS News' Radhika Ojha and David Wharton take a look at the recent midterm elections and explore what impact they could have on the housing and mortgage industries going forward. With the Republicans strengthening their hold on the Senate as Democrats took the House, how will the landscape evolve in 2019 and beyond? Finally, be sure to check out our 2018 Asset Management Guide, which showcases the companies working diligently to provide transparency, increase efficiencies, mitigate risk, and provide reliable, up-to-date tracking on all aspects of an asset's journey through the process. We hope that DS News has informed and expanded your perspective during 2018, and we hope you'll stay with us as we continue to bring you the insights and perspectives of the industry's best and brightest in 2019.
