2 A Matter of Perspective Hollywood has made use of a trick called "forced perspective" for nearly as long as they've been making movies at all. By positioning a prop, actor, or set closer or further away from the camera than other objects in its view, an optical illusion can make a tiny object appear huge or a huge object, tiny.
