2 Forewarned and Forearmed With hurricane season officially commencing on June 1, a nation that has been battered by storms and other natural disasters over the past few years is understandably bracing for what may be ahead. For servicers and their partners, now is the time to reflect on lessons learned and and revisit plans on how best to anticipate and respond to future calamities. In our June cover story, "Storm Front Ahead," experts discuss takeaways from past disasters and underline the importance of technology that is assisting them not only to predict storms more accurately but also to help homeowners through challenges posed by future disasters. In addition to having a plan in place for when natural disasters strike, it's critical that industry stakeholders understand the rules and implications of how an emergency declaration works. Michelle Devore, Systems and Process Manager for Padgett Law Group, and Marissa M. Yaker, Esq., Managing Attorney of Foreclosure for Padgett Law Group, provide insights in our feature entitled "In Case of Emergency." In "e Silver Lining," Jan Duke, COO of a360inc, makes a case for cloud computing and how it can provide servicers with a backup that won't fail during an emergency. Finally, in "Time Is Not on Your Side," Vincent Spoto, Founding Partner and Managing Director of RRMS Advisors, cautions servicers about the additional costs foreclosure delays can lead to. Ensuring that the industry is better prepared for natural disasters is a critical task that will only become more important in the years to come. Whether it's by perusing this month's DS News or securing a spot at July's Disaster Preparedness Symposium, to be held July 31 at the Hotel Monteleone in New Orleans, the challenges are daunting but the potential for positive action is just as strong. Together, we can all weather any storm that comes, supporting the needs of both the industry and impacted homeowners. Welcome to the June issue of DS News.
