2 A Diversity of Experiences Once again, this year's September issue of DS News will be on hand at the annual Five Star Conference and Expo in Dallas, Texas. As it will be distributed to a cross-section of our industry's best and brightest, it's only appropriate that we once again present a super-sized edition, packed with extra content and with a particular focus on one quality that will be both represented at that conference and celebrated in this issue: diversity. Our cover story, "Out of Many, One," Seth Welborn speaks with industry subject-matter experts from organizations including Bank of America, Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, the Mortgage Bankers Association, Planet Home Lending, RoundPoint Mortgage Servicing, and VRM Mortgage Services about the bottom-line benefits of embracing diversity and inclusion (D&I), and the challenges of implementing it properly. e Five Star Conference will once again see the presentation of the Five Star Lifetime Achievement Award, this time to Tony Ebers, COO of Mr. Cooper Group. In "Leading From the Front," DS News profiles Ebers through both his own words and those of his colleagues who know him best. In "Building a Winning Roster," Marti Diaz, SVP and Chief Human Resources Officer for Mortgage Contracting Services, we shift the focus back to D&I, exploring how building a diverse team can lead your team to success. Next up is "e Diversity Imperative," Anita Scott, SVP and Chief Human Resources Officer for Radian, explores why D&I will be even more critical in the years to come as the demographics of both the American populace and the American workforce continue to change. For "When Hope Survives," DS News takes a look at the story of Hello Solutions Founder and CEO Leisha Delgado, who launched a new business only to be confronted with a daunting cancer diagnosis. Here's how that story of tragic timing became an inspiring lesson in hope, optimism, and hard work. For our penultimate September feature, Brookstone Management Client Relationship and Operations Manager Kerry Medel examines "e X Factor in Property Preservation." Here's how the right quality assurance team and processes can help a field services provider break out in a highly competitive business environment. Finally, JK Huey, CEO of Huey Management Services asks, "If the Default Crisis Really Over?" While delinquency numbers may be down from the heights of the financial crisis, that doesn't mean consumers and communities aren't still struggling. All this and more can be found in the pages ahead.
