The company organizes and assimilates data on more than 500 million consumers, 100 million residences and 81 million businesses worldwide, using advanced analytics and proprietary technology to create and deliver customized insights. COMPANY HISTORY: In 1899, Cator Woolford set up a local credit bureau in Atlanta called the Retail Credit Company, where he and his brother Guy sold their Merchant's Guide of mimeographed credit ratings to retail stores. By the 1950s, the Retail Credit Company had customers in more than 80 different lines of business. Automation of the company's consumer credit files came in the 1970s and with it, a change of the company's name to Equifax—to better portray a company engaged in the "equitable" distribution of facts. In the 1990s, Equifax further developed its selling strategy by launching a complete suite of services for businesses with technology-driven answers for its consumer interactions. "The insights we provide enrich both the performance of businesses and the lives of consumers." COMPETITIVE ADVANTAGE: Equifax is seen as a problem-solver. The company's data covers approximately 90 percent of all residential assets in the United States, and clients call on Equifax's analytical insights into property information at the household and neighborhood levels to improve their decisioning and business processes. Through proprietary algorithms and analytics, raw data elements are transformed into meaningful and actionable information for its customers. THE EQUIFAX DIFFERENCE: Equifax brings together diverse data assets, develops constructive insights through analytics, and delivers the results through its proprietary decisioning applications. As has been proven through diverse economic conditions, Equifax says enabling critical business decisions with confidence in a world of increased opportunity and risk is highly valued. "When our property data and analytics are combined with other solutions from Equifax, we offer a 360° view of a borrower's 'health' to better understand the opportunity or risk they may pose to an institution." CORPORATE STRATEGY: Equifax's formula for accomplishing its goals is to achieve robust results through service and innovative solutions for a growing and increasingly diverse base of customers. The company says it enters 2013 with optimism about opportunities for growth and improved returns on its investments. SPECIALTY EXPERTISE: Equifax specializes in developing AVMs that are consistently identified by independent third parties as being highly accurate and reliable. In addition, Equifax's patent-pending market segmentation technology allows for the reporting of market statistics (e.g. home price changes, inventory levels, and foreclosure rates) at very granular levels of geography while maintaining an acceptable level of statistical significance. ACCOLADES & AWARDS: In 2012, Equifax was recognized as one of the World's Most Admired Companies by Fortune magazine, named to InformationWeek's InfoWeek 500, acclaimed a Top 50 Service Provider by Mortgage Technology, and named one of the Top 20 Companies to work for by the Atlanta Journal Constitution.
