» PRIVATE MORTGAGE INSURERS REPORT IMPROVEMENTS IN MARCH Mortgage Insurance Companies of America (MICA) reported a lift in business in March, with dollar volume rising both month-overmonth and year-over-year. MICA member companies (Genworth Mortgage Insurance Corporation, Mortgage Guaranty Insurance Corporation, and Radian Guaranty Inc.) issued 40,893 certificates representing about $10.1 billion in March, the trade group reported. March's numbers are an improvement over February, which saw 34,665 policies issued for $9.2 billion in loans, as well as March 2012, when members wrote 30,080 policies for $6.7 billion in new mortgages. Member companies reported a total of $402.1 billion in primary insurance in force for the month. At the same time, the number of private mortgage insurance applications received by MICA members totaled 43,278, up from 36,793 in February and 32,540 in March 2012. March's application volume was the highest since last October, when MICA members reported receiving 46,045 applications. The cure/default ratio spiked to 138.5 percent from February's 102.5 percent, with MICA recording 23,953 cures and 17,298 defaults. NewOak Capital Names Head of New Credit Services Business NewOak Capital named Chad Burhance head of credit services, overseeing the company's newly launched business, NewOak Credit Services, LLC, in Danbury, Connecticut. Burhance has 21 years' experience in financial services. Prior to joining NewOak in 2010, he worked for several leading firms, including State Street Corporation, Lehman Brothers, Citigroup, and UBS. ZVN Properties Appoints New COO ZVN Properties, Inc., welcomed David Dolan as COO. With nearly three decades of experience in all facets of banking, lending, and mortgage field servicing, Dolan has worked to transform both private and publicly held businesses. Throughout his career, he has held multiple senior leadership positions focused on improving operational efficiency and revenue growth. Fisher Law Group Hires Managing Attorney for Eviction Department The Fisher Law Group, PLLC, announced the hiring of Sha'Donna Osborne as managing attorney for the firm's eviction department. Prior to her recent appointment, Osborne practiced insurance defense litigation. During that time, she gained extensive first- and second-chair jury trial experience. She graduated from Howard University School of Law. NAD, iServe Companies Name New Director of Business Development National Asset Direct, Inc. (NAD), and the iServe Companies announced the appointment of Sean Galaise as director of business development. Galaise is responsible for driving new growth and developing strategic partnerships for the iServe Companies. He has more than 15 years' real estate experience. Most recently, he served as the Five Star Institute's SVP of business development. Vice Capital Markets' Managing Director Promoted to President Vice Capital Markets named former managing director Troy D. Baars as its new president. Baars joined the company in early 2008 and has been instrumental in helping clients navigate recent market movements and changes in the landscape of mortgage salability. A 17-year veteran of the industry, Baars' career is rooted in the secondary and capital markets. MortgageDocs Taps New CEO to Lead Growth MortgageDocs appointed Christian Redmond CEO, responsible for growing its client base and further developing its technology platform, SignSTAT. Redmond was previously VP of business development at the Walz Group, responsible for sales strategy, sales execution, and client management in the mortgage vertical. During his seven-year tenure, the Walz Group quintupled in size. First Valuation Selects New Exec for Business, Product Development First Valuation announced Bill Carey has joined the company as SVP of business and product development. Carey brings more than 25 years' real estate and mortgage banking experience to the valuation firm. He is responsible for bringing the company's technology to market and enhancing process improvement for the industry. Long & Foster Appoints New Jersey Manager, Announces Associate Honor Short sales completed since 2009. Source: HOPE Now Long & Foster Real Estate, Inc., named Michael T. Mavromates as the new manager for its Avalon, New Jersey, office. Mavromates has more than 30 years' experience leading sales teams. Most recently, he was a sales associate with Keller Williams Realty. Prior to that, he was a top-producing sales associate and regional training director for Weichert Realtors. Long & Foster's Avalon office is the company's first location on the New Jersey shore. Long & Foster also announced the Realtor Association of Prince William (PWAR) named its very own Kristy Odend'hal as 2012 Sales Associate of the Year. Odend'hal is a member of Long & Foster's Odend'hal Group and has overseen that team since 2010. She currently runs the business out of an office in Old Town Manassas in Virginia. Odend'hal received her Realtor license in 2006. The Wolf Firm Names New Managing Attorney The Wolf Firm announced the appointment of Kayo Manson-Tompkins as managing attorney of the firm's eviction department. Manson-Tompkins has nearly 25 years' experience handling residential civil litigation, with particular emphasis on complex evictions, judicial foreclosures, and mobile home foreclosures. She is also experienced in dealing with surplus funds, deeds-in-lieu, and bankruptcies. 39
