2 The Strength of Us As I write this, our team is working on final preparations for this year's Five Star Conference and Expo. As I look over the lists of attendees and speakers, I'm struck by the diversity of voices and viewpoints who will be attending and sharing their insights. It's only appropriate, then, that the issue of DS News that will be on-hand at the conference is our annual installment focused on the industry's commitment to diversity and inclusion. In this month's diversity-themed cover story, reporter Christina Hughes Babb discusses the topic with representatives of CBC Mortgage Agency, Fannie Mae, Mr. Cooper Group, New American Funding, Ocwen Financial Corporation, and Open Mortgage. We next bring you "Changing the Meaning of 'Equity' in the Housing Industry," written by Justin Foster, SVP of People Experience for Radian. In this piece, Foster explains how homeowners have an enormous advantage over renters when it comes to accumulating wealth, and why this can have substantial consequences. In "Finding Solutions in Distress," Nathan Cron, Director and Broker for New Western, explores challenges facing the industry such as continued inventory shortages, rising home costs, and delays. e answer to these problems, he explains, may rest in distressed housing. Next up, DS News Editorial Advisory Board member Courtney ompson, Founder, Consigliera, brings us "e Paper Problem." In this feature, ompson explains why Remote Online Notarization adoption is key to streamlining many key default servicing processes. Finally, don't miss "Five Warning Signs of Mortgage Default Risk." In this piece, Nadim Homsany, Co-Founder and CEO of EarnUp, breaks down why servicers must identify issues when they are small and still manageable in order to best help borrowers weather financial storms. You'll find all of this and more inside the September 2021 edition of DS News.
