Tennessee First Tennessee Bank Takes Over Failed Institution The closure of a Tennessee bank on June 7 brought the nation's year-to-date total of bank failures to 16. The Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) closed Mountain National Bank of Sevierville, Tennessee, appointing the FDIC as receiver. To protect depositors, an agreement was reached with First Tennessee Bank, N.A. of Memphis to assume all of the failed bank's $373.4 million in deposits and to purchase its $437.3 million in assets. The FDIC estimates the Tennessee bank's collapse will cost its Deposit Insurance Fund $33.5 million. Mountain National Bank is the first Tennessee-based FDIC-insured institution to go under this year. The last bank failure in the state was in June 2012.
