2 Upholding the FHFA's Commitment to Equitable Housing for All Welcome to another issue of DS News. While this month, we celebrate Diversity Month nationally, examples of diversity and inclusion are being seen more and more throughout the mortgage finance sector. is month, DS News had the opportunity to chat with Sandra L. ompson, Acting Director of the Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA). Named Acting Director of the Agency by President Biden on June 23, 2021, ompson continued her career within government that included serving as Deputy Director of the Division of Housing Mission and Goals (DHMG) since March 2013. In that role, she oversaw FHFA's housing and regulatory policy, capital policy, financial analysis, fair lending, and all mission activities for Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, and the Federal Home Loan Banks. In our April cover feature, "Working Toward Equity and Sustainability," ompson discusses her accomplishments so far as head of the FHFA, her priorities and goals for the future, the challenges she is working to overcome, including a commitment to the guiding principles of accessibility, affordability, sustainability, transparency, and accountability. As an increasing number of properties enter the foreclosure process, Daren Blomquist, VP of Market Economics for Auction.com, explains how remote bidding technology will help ensure that more of these distressed properties are sold to local community developers in his article, "How Remote Bidding Technology Empowers Local Community Developers." Blomquist explains how these developers will responsibly rehabilitate these properties and transform them into affordably priced homes and further enhance local communities. Keeping on the topic of foreclosures and evictions, this month, we hear from McGlinchey Stafford PLLC's Mikelle V. Bliss and Margaret J. Cascino as the COVID-19 Emergency Eviction and Foreclosure Prevention Act of 2020 (EEFPA) officially expired mid-January. "After the Pause" details residential and commercial mortgage foreclosure proceedings as they "resume in the normal course." Also this month, Darren Bordeaux, CTO of New Western—a company that aggregates foreclosure data and applies core algorithms to identify investment opportunities—explains why technology should supplement efficiency, and not supplant or replace people in his article "Man vs. e Machine: Big Data in Real Estate." Bordeaux explores the many dangers of focusing solely on Big Data, noting that "at its core, real estate is a people business, not an algorithm." All this and more of the top default servicing news as we welcome you to the April 2022 edition of DS News.
