"Do you agree with Edward DeMarco's stance that other loss mitigation options besides principal reduction can offer borrowers the same benefits without costing the GSEs and ultimately taxpayers?" butlerandhosch.com Contact us at: oneroof@butlerandhosch.com Michael J Wallace Jr: People's ability to pay their mortgage is based on their ability to make a monthly payment. You can acheive that through a modification, with a forebearance on part of the principal balance. This keeps the people in house and gives both the homeowner and taxpayer a chance to recover. Principal foregivness could encourage those that are current on their mortgage to default to obtain their bailout. Lee Latner: Michael, I couldn't agree more. The morale hazzard is too slippery of a slope. Everyone has lost value, therefore everyone would want to receive a reduction. It's about home retention, not loss deference. Sometimes they are they same thing, but sometimes they are not. FLORIDA | GEORGIA | MISSISSIPPI | LOUISIANA | NORTH CAROLINA | SOUTH CAROLINA | TEXAS 19
