IN THE NEWS DebtX White Paper Promotes Mark-toMarket Valuations in Stress Tests Michigan rank: 33 90+ Day Foreclosure Unemployment Delinquency Rate RateRate march 2012 3.37%2.44% 8.5% year ago 4.21%3.03% 10.5% percent point change According to a new white paper from DebtX, adopting mark-to-market loan valuations in stress testing reveals potential weaknesses in loan portfolios during times of economic hardship and can assist financial institutions in strengthening portfolio management. DebtX's paper, Stress Testing and Fair Market Value: Increased Transparency for Risk Management and Regulatory Examinations, explains how mark-to-market stress testing can help predict the impact of interest rate and/or credit shocks to a loan portfolio. The 21-page report presents two detailed stress-testing scenarios that include data sets with hypothetical mark-to-market valuations based on actual loan sale trade data. "DebtX believes the nation's financial system will be stronger and better equipped to manage a systemic shock if mark-tomarket valuations are used in stress testing," said DebtX CEO Kingsley Greenland. "This white paper articulates the benefits of loan-by-loan stress testing for banks, insurance companies, pension funds, and other institutions." DebtX's white paper also examines the potential of a liquidity squeeze due to declining loan values. Additionally, the analysis shows how banks can use stress test results to anticipate what segments of their portfolios should be sold to prepare for business cycles. Headquartered in Boston, DebtX is a full-service loan sale advisor for commercial, consumer, and specialty finance debt. The company also operates the largest online marketplace for loan sales, serving commercial banks, investment banks, insurance companies, and government-sponsored enterprises.
