IN THE NEWS Alabama's Elmore County Embraces E-Recording Elmore County became only the second county in Alabama to allow electronic recording of land documents.  Alabama's Montgomery County began offering e-Recording of land and real property-related documents in 2011 and was the sole county in the state to adopt the electronic process until late August when Elmore County followed suit. Elmore's probate office partnered with eRecording provider Simplifile to offer the service.  "There are so many great benefits that come with e-Recording, and we are excited to bring those benefits to Elmore County and their customers," said Paul Clifford, president of Simplifile. Electronic submissions eliminate the need to mail documents or physically go to the probate office, which in turn saves money, paper, and time, Simplifile explained. Law firms, mortgage companies, abstractors, banks, lenders, and other mortgage 70 stakeholders can now securely file land documents through a Web browser from the comfort and convenience of their offices. "Over time, electronic recording of documents will lessen some of the heavy demands on us, as well as provide a convenience for those who regularly submit documents for recording," said Linda Blankenship, an Elmore County probate office employee. According to local media, since Probate Judge John Enslen took office in midJanuary, one of his primary goals has been to better assimilate modern technology and probate office operations. "There are many potential uses for technology with respect to the various probate office operations and functions," Enslen said. "There is no reason you could not do your probate office business in your pajamas while seated in front of your home computer." Simplifile representative Barbara McClean told a local news outlet that Shelby County is next in line in the state to adopt e-Recording. Simplifile has enabled the electronic recording of hundreds of thousands of land and real property documents in 968 counties across the United States.
