2 ummer is here. ere's no doubt about it. After a fitful Spring that saw the carry-over of depressed home sales and frozen home construction from a brutal winter, the weather is definitely warming up. But while we get ready for our favorite summer activities—some quality time spent around the grill or lounging by the pool or lake—there is a long held summer tradition that most of us have forgotten about as we get farther and farther from it. Each summer was punctuated by an either celebratory or panic-stricken event, one that either brought reprieve from a summer spent doing chores or added more to-dos to an already lengthy list. I'm talking about the late May, early June assessment of an entire semester's work—e Report Card. While many remember the end of the year report card as an assessment of hard work, diligence, and overall scholastic achievement, some weren't so lucky. Naturally, DS News readers were always at the top of the class. Assessment is important for progress; for realizing goals made and goals met. To that end, DS News presents its own scorecard for a huge swath of government agencies that currently shape and impact the mortgage industry. We took a look at the GSEs, and assessed Fannie and Freddie's progress from their conservatorship onward. We looked at the Federal Housing Administration, investigating relevant data points for the agency's activities. We were curious—how are the governmental agencies that most affect the mortgage industry living up to their stated missions and goals? While we would have all liked to get an A+ in all of our classes, not all of our agencies fared as well as they could have. ere is some room for improvement. We present our review for our reader's careful consideration as watchful stewards of the mortgage industry in the past and going forward. We also like feedback as well; it is, after all, how we learn, grow, and continue to bring you the most relevant in default servicing news.
