25 ยป VISIT US ONLINE @ DSNEWS.COM LEGAL LEAGUE 100 BOARD DISCUSSES ISSUES FACING FINANCIAL SERVICES INDUSTRY e Legal League 100 Advisory Board met in Washington, D.C., to plot the path forward for serving the default servicing and financial services legal community in the coming year. Ed Delgado, president and CEO of the Five Star Institute and acting ex-officio of the Legal League 100, was in attendance at the meeting to offer the board his perspective on the pressing matters. Delgado emphasized Five Star's commitment to partnering with the Legal League by continuing to offer education and support to its members. Atlanta-based creditors' rights attorney Glen Rubin presided over his first official board meeting since being installed as the Legal League 100 chair at the members-only meeting in September, hosted at the 2014 Five Star Conference and Expo. Rubin's 25-year career in practicing law began in New York in the commercial bankruptcy field and later moved to suburban Atlanta, where he is a managing partner at Rubin Lublin, LLC, a mortgage default practice that serves clients not only from Georgia but from surrounding states Tennessee, Mississippi, and Alabama. Prior to being elected, Rubin had been serving as interim chair. "I am delighted to be serving as chair of the Advisory Board of the Legal League 100," Rubin said. "My goal is to increase the stature and visibility of the league in the mortgage default industry, as well as to advocate for our member law firms and associate members with respect to issues they run up against operating in today's challenging environment." Legal League 100 was formed in April 2007 in collaboration with the Five Star Institute as a consortium of default servicing and financial services law firms providing a results-driven, go-to resource for the industry's decision makers. e League's Advisory Board was created in December 2011 in response to an increased need for leadership and advocacy with the purpose of strategizing growth opportunities, facilitating education, and enhancing strategic relationships in the industry and on Capitol Hill. "ere are multiple trade associations serving the mortgage banking community, and in particular, the mortgage default industry," Rubin wrote earlier this year. "Most do a wonderful job of offering their memberships the opportunity to network with other industry professionals and increase business opportunities. Only a select few take it to the next level and advocate for their membership within the industry and beyond. In my opinion, the League is at the head of those select few." PROGRESS MADE ON ENDING VETERAN HOMELESSNESS, MORE TO BE DONE Homelessness in the United States is a tragic national epidemic. More tragic still is the fact that tens of thousands of military veterans, who fought bravely to ensure that the freedoms the American people enjoy are never taken away, go to sleep every night without a roof over their heads. Five Star President and CEO Ed Delgado was a part of the invitation-only crowd in Washing- ton, D.C., at the National Alliance to End Home- lessness Annual Awards Ceremony. is year's event, Communities to Watch: Ending Veteran Homelessness, recognized communities that have decreased veteran homelessness by 50 percent or more in the past three years. "It's deplorable that over 50,000 proud U.S. veterans are homeless," Delgado said. "As an industry, we must do better, we can do better and we will do better to serve this need." e ceremony highlighted 14 communities out of the 100 largest metropolitan areas in the United States. California had the most cities of any state that saw veteran homelessness decline by more than half in the last three years. e nation's largest metro area, New York City, saw a decrease of 65 percent. e largest decline outside of California went to New Orleans with 76.5 percent. is progress was achieved through the Alliance's Never Another Homeless Veteran campaign, which was created as a two-year effort by the Alliance to gain and leverage public sup- port to end homelessness among veterans. e group boasts a leadership committee consisting of Gen. David H. Petraeus, President George H. W. Bush, former Defense Secretary Robert M. Gates, Former Defense Secretary Donald Rums- feld, and Sen. Patty Murray, among others. e Five Star Institute is committed to helping veterans achieve homeownership. Five Star has partnered with the Military Warriors Support Foundation to facilitate the donation of about $4 million worth of homes to veterans in the last four years. In September, Five Star hosted its Military Warriors Honors Banquet as part of the 2014 Five Star Conference and Expo in Dallas At that event, Delgado and retired Lt. Gen. Leroy Sisco presented mortgage-free homes to six wounded veterans through the Military Warriors Support Foundation, and each veteran received a standing ovation as the homes were presented. Country music superstar Wynonna Judd and her band performed at the event. Five Star will continue to work with various or- ganizations with the goal of helping U.S. veterans achieve homeownership. "It is important to remind ourselves who the real heroes are," Delgado said.
