MCS revamped the Sandy site and restructured the IT to make its newly acquired employees as comfortable in the MCS family as possible, Hinkle says. "We also kept the leadership team there pretty much in tact," he says. "at operation is staying there, and it's a growing business." And the operation of the entire company is a mighty tight ship. Each morning at 8 a.m., about 30 managers from all offices get on a conference call to hear what's going on at MCS that day. It's part of Reaves' effort to maintain consistency and make sure all parts of the company feel they are equal partners in MCS's success. On Wednesdays, the call is done via video conference. Just how important to the company's health and growth is this call? "We've found that the few who don't do well with us are the ones who didn't embrace that call every morning," Reaves says. e company's growth overall, according to Hinkle, is due to its emphasis on building tight, positive relationships in the communities MCS serves. Much of this relationship- building occurs naturally simply by doing business, of course, but MCS's position in the community is enhanced by its work with various organizations that aid military, police, and fire operations. MCS's locations in Tampa and Ruston are especially close to military bases—MacDill Air Force Base, home of the U.S. Special Operations Command, in Tampa and Barksdale Air Force Base just outside Bossier City in Louisiana. MCS started working with the Military Warriors Support Foundation, which awards mortgage-free homes to wounded veterans, and Carry the Load, which seeks to bring Memorial Day's true meaning back to the holiday and to promote ways to honor military personnel and veterans. Reaves says MCS raised money through a walk with Carry the Load in Dallas (the organization is based in Plano) that was quickly replicated in Tampa. Since then, Carry the Load has modeled walks nationally in the MCS walks' mold. A main reason for the focus on military outreach is because every family has been affected in some way by a loved one's service, Reaves says. In other words, it's a way of staying close to the communities MCS serves and maintaining those tight relationships by which the company lives or dies. P COVER STORY SUCCESS FORMUL AS INDUSTRY INSIGHT INDUSTRY INSIGHT This past October, MCS added its fourth site, MCS Valuations, when it acquired the collateral solutions and field services business units of national real estate analytics firm CoreLogic.
