2 hy do we mark anniversaries? roughout human history, tracing all the way back to the beginnings of civilization and regardless of the type of calendar being used, mankind has continually placed a special importance on days that mark occasions that have a meaning to their particular society. And yet, there is nothing that makes one day innately more special than another. Every day, the sun rises in the east and sets in the west. Days themselves are just a function of the earth rotating on its axis at a rate of about 1,000 miles per hour while it travels around the sun at nearly 67,000 miles per hour. ere is nothing intrinsically special about any day on the calendar. But that's not the point. It's not about the day itself. Celebrating an anniversary gives us the chance to take time to reflect on just how far we've come. Put simply, anniversaries help us to remember. In this month's issue of DS News we were granted special access to take an in depth look at the history and inner workings of one of the pioneers in the property preservation space, Safeguard Properties. Safeguard is celebrating its 25th anniversary this month. In his piece, Chris Johnston tells the profound story of how one man, without experience but with an idea, took a small niche in default servicing and developed it into a business worth hundreds of millions of dollars. When the torch was passed to a new generation of leadership, instead of declining like most do, it grew into a billion dollar business. Read on to see how they did it. What else should we be remembering? Is there something going on in the market that you would like to see covered? Have an idea for a new type of feature? We're all ears, so drop us a line and let us know how we're doing. Send us an email at editor@dsnews.com or follow us on Twitter @DSNewsDaily and join in on the conversation.
