IN THE NEWS Safeguard Properties Launches Legislation Resource Center to Assist Servicers Safeguard Properties has launched a Fast-Track Legislation Resource Center in order to consolidate various legislation and provide a resource for industry professionals to keep up with the latest fast-track legisla- tion, according to an announcement from Safeguard. e new resource center includes an easy-to-navigate, interactive map tool that features states that have enacted, or are contemplating enacting, or have expired fast-track legislation related to vacant or abandoned properties. e map also includes links to the final bill's text and the history of the legislation as well as any applicable media coverage the legislation received. e Safeguard Fast-Track Legislation Resource Center provides servicers and communities with another tool to assist them in finding solutions to the vacant and abandoned property issue. Safeguard founder and chairman Robert Klein has long been a proponent of the fast-tracking concept for vacant and abandoned proper- ties, and by fostering meaningful dialogue about the issue, he has brought the topic to the forefront. Safeguard is celebrating its 25th year in 2015. "For 25 years, Safeguard has been a lead- ing community advocate within the housing industry," said Michael Halpern, Safeguard director of community initiatives, whose department spearheaded the Fast-Track Legislation Resource Center. "Reducing the foreclosure timeframe for strictly abandoned and vacant properties returns the property to productive use quicker, which benefits neighborhoods and the community as a whole. By making state-by-state fast-track legislative information universally accessible, new doors will open to create even more solution-driven conversations." e resource center highlights defini- tions of "vacancy" or "abandoned" within each piece of legislation in order to help determine if a property is a candidate for the expedited process of fast-tracking vacant and abandoned properties. "We felt it was important for Safeguard to take the lead and invest the time and resources in researching and consolidating fast-track legislation so that it can be easily shared," Safeguard CEO Alan Jaffa said. "Lawmakers and business leaders are search- ing for ways to rebuild communities, and our hope is that this tool will be a useful resource to help stabilize at-risk neighborhoods and stem blight."
