2 I recently spent a very productive three days at the 2015 Five Star Conference & Expo. And while there were many important lessons learned, there was an inescapable theme that resonated throughout: From coping with the depths of the financial crisis to adjusting to the new realities of an increasingly less fragile recovery, the market is in a constant state of evolution and our industry must adapt if we are to continue to thrive. Homeownership is at its lowest point in nearly half a century and there is a new generation of potential homeowners that is unsure of whether they want to take the plunge. In our cover story "Rental Nation" we take a look at one of the only benefactors of the declining homeownership rate: the exploding single-family rental market. What is the industry doing to adjust to the wave of new renters coming in the next couple of decades? Read on to find out. Foreclosure rates are down. REO is not what it used to be. While that may be good news for the housing market and the economy, it means that many firms that thrive on default servicing work will face some difficult choices in the coming year. In "A Tough Market Means Tough Choices," Shannon Cobb provides a blueprint for survival and adapting in times such as these. In his piece "What Overregulation? How Regulation Will Increase Over the Next Decade," Neal Doherty takes us through how the CFPB collaborates with state governments and makes the argument that the current regulatory scheme will only become more severe in the coming decade. Plus, we have exclusive coverage of the Five Star Conference & Expo. Get a recap of all three days of education and networking in the pages that follow. Is there something going on in the market that you would like to see covered? Have an idea for a new type of feature? We want to hear about it. Drop us a line and let us know how we're doing.
