FORMER CFPB DEPUTY DIRECTOR JOINS EASTERN BANK Boston-based Eastern Bank, a full-service commercial bank recently announced the appointment of Steven L. Antonakes as SVP and chief compliance officer. He will report directly to Barbara Heinemann, EVP of Eastern Bank's Enterprise Risk Management division. Antonakes is the former deputy director and the associate director for Supervision, Enforcement, and Fair Lending at the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB). He brings 25 years of compliance, risk management, and financial services experience to Eastern Bank. While at the CFPB, Antonakes served as its second highest ranking official and was responsible for the supervision of all banks and non-banks under the Bureau's jurisdiction and the enforcement of federal consumer protection and fair lending laws. Antonakes was appointed by successive governors to serve as the Massachusetts Commissioner of Banks from December 2003 to November 2010. Previously, he served in various managerial capacities at the Division of Banks and began his regulatory career as an entry- level bank examiner in 1990. In March 2007, Antonakes received NeighborWorks America's "Government Service Award" for his work in combating foreclosures. AUCTION.COM HIRES TECHNOLOGY FINANCE VETERAN AS NEW CFO Auction.com has announced the hiring of Aman Kothari, a veteran of technology finance, as the company's new chief financial officer. Kothari most recently spent 12 years with Yahoo! as SVP, global controller, and chief accounting officer. In his new role as CFO at Auction.com, he will be responsible for overseeing the company's financial operations and growth strategies and will be based in the company's Silicon Valley offices in Belmont, California. He will report directly to Auction. com CEO Tim Morse, who previously worked with Kothari at Yahoo!. Morse served as CFO of Yahoo! from 2009 to 2012. "Aman played an integral role in many significant transactions during his tenure at Yahoo! and I'm excited to be working with him again," said Morse. "With his expertise, dedication and enthusiasm, he'll be a fantastic addition to Auction.com's leadership team as we continue to build the world's leading online real estate marketplace." Kothari has a B.A. from the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow, Scotland, and is a Chartered Accountant. Prior to working with Yahoo!, he was a senior manager with PricewaterhouseCoopers. "Auction.com has a unique opportunity to disrupt the status quo within a massive market and shape the way real estate is bought and sold," Kothari said. "I'm thrilled to join Auction.com at this exciting time and look forward to working with the team to propel the company to the next level." SAFEGUARD PROPERTIES APPOINTS AVP OF OPERATIONS Ohio-based Safeguard Properties, the largest mortgage field services company in the nation, has announced the appointment of Pat Hoffman as assistant VP of operations. Hoffman will assist the COO in identifying and executing on a number of strategical operational initiatives in the newly created position. Prior to joining Safeguard, Hoffman held the position of director of operations with Capstone Logistics in Norcross, Georgia, for 11 years. In that position, Hoffman managed multiple accounts providing third-party warehouse services to leading wholesale and retail grocery and food service providers. Hoffman's responsibilities in that position also included implementing quality and performance improvement initiatives, managing safety programs, and delivering results through effective recruiting, training, and team building. Before Capstone, Hoffman served as operations manager for Roadway Express in Kernersville, North Carolina. Hoffman has a bachelor of business administration in information systems and operations management from the University of Toledo in Ohio. DOCMAGIC NAMES NEW CHIEF COMPLIANCE OFFICER DocMagic, Inc., recently named Gavin T. Ales as its chief compliance officer (CCO), according to an announcement from the company. In his new role, Ales will have hands-on involvement in the development, implementation, and maintenance of DocMagic's compliance products and services. is includes managing DocMagic's library of mortgage loan documents, which are used by lenders and brokers in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and U.S. Territories, monitoring legal and regulatory changes, and developing and maintaining DocMagic's automated compliance tests and audits. Ales was the deputy chief compliance officer at Prospect Mortgage, LLC, prior to joining DocMagic. He specializes in mortgage banking compliance; federal and state regulatory compliance; financial services law; real estate law; and consumer credit law, among other disciplines. "We are pleased to have someone with Gavin's depth of compliance experience and thorough understanding of regulatory rules join our growing team," said Dominic Iannitti, president and CEO of DocMagic. "Gavin's solid background in mortgage compliance will undoubtedly help us effectively manage loan document compliance and continue to provide robust automated compliance audits in today's very fluid mortgage marketplace." Additionally, Ales holds a JD from American University's Washington College of Law, and a B. B. A. with a concentration in Economics as well as a B.
