In early March, a group of 45 members
of the U.S. House of Representatives led
by Rep. Mike Capuano (D-Massachusetts)
wrote a letter to HUD Secretary Julián Castro
and FHFA Director Mel Watt asking the
regulators to make changes to improve their
respective agencies' NPL sales programs.
Capuano in particular has championed
the cause of improving agency NPL sales
programs for some time. "e decision to sell off
thousands of loans at a time at sharp discounts
to the highest bidder continues to enrich Wall
Street at the expense of neighborhoods and
community-based organizations," he said.
