2 New Year, New President, New … Editor? Hello, DS News readers! You've probably already noticed by the picture at the bottom of this page that something has changed. No, Derek didn't grow out his hair or suddenly change his name. We've actually changed leadership over here at DS News, and I, Rachel Williams, couldn't be more excited to take the helm of this powerful publication. ough I might seem a new face to many of you, I've actually been working with DS and the entire Five Star Institute for the better part of a decade. I've been an intern, a writer, an editor, and a director, and I currently serve as editor-in-chief of our sister publication, MReport. So trust this, loyal readers: Your magazine is in good hands. What a great issue to take over, too. Our biggest of the year, the January DS News is our much-coveted Black Book publication. Here, we highlight the industry's top financial services law firms, as well as tackle many hot-button issues facing legal providers today. It's a must-read for anyone in the industry. But it's not all Black Book this month. As a country, we have a whole new horizon ahead of us, and we at DS News want to tackle that, too. As Donald Trump's administration prepares to take over the White House, it's time to anticipate what the next four years could mean for the mortgage industry and housing as a whole. In "Now at a Real Estate Developer is President-elect," former Federal Housing Commissioner for the Department of Housing and Urban Development Brian Montgomery does just that. He delves into how the new administration can put homeownership within reach for more Americans, as well as how it can tackle issues in the rental market, like ever- increasing rent prices and a dwindling supply of units. It's an info-packed issue and one you surely won't want to miss. Expect the rest of the year to be just as good!
