Increasing Home Sales Attributed to Weather
e weather put homebuyers in the mood to purchase,
according to the latest Housing Trends Report from the Iowa
Association of Realtors (IAR). e report revealed that the
number of homes sold in November increased 14.9 percent when
compared to November 2015.
e housing market also saw a significant increase in the price
of homes. e year-over-year median sales price rose 5.7 percent,
and the median sales price for November 2016 was $148,000, which
was an $8,000 year-over-year increase, according to the report.
Inventory remained plentiful, and homebuyers took
advantage of the holiday season to purchase homes. According
to the report, 3,012 homes were sold in November, while 2,622
were sold in November 2015. e average days homes spent on
the market increased to 76, which was two more days than in
November 2015.
Cindy Miller, IAR President, said that the fall weather led
to an increase in home sales. "Great weather in October and
November helped buyers and sellers," she said. "We are happy to
see the strong numbers in November and expect our year-end stats
to show Iowa's solid year in real estate."
