Home Sales, Prices on the Rise in Iowa
Both home sales and home prices in Iowa are on the rise,
according to a recent Housing Trends Report from the Iowa
Association of REALTORS (IAR).
From November 2015 to November 2016, the report shows that
Iowa home sales jumped 14.9 percent—from 2,622 to 3,012—while
the median sales price saw an uptick of 5.7 percent, rising from
$140,000 to $148,000.
According to IAR President Cindy Miller, the state's favorable
fall season may have played a role in the recent surge.
"Great weather in October and November helped buyers and sellers,"
Miller said. "We are happy to see the strong numbers in November and
expect our year-end stats to show Iowa's solid year in real estate."
Year-to-date sales as of November are also higher than they
were in 2016. e IAR's report shows a total of 2,622 homes sold
by the close of November 2015, while more than 3,000 homes were
sold in the same period 2016.
e only notable stat to decline for the Iowa housing market
was days on market (DOM). ey jumped just two days over
2015's numbers, rising from an average of 74 days on the market in
2015 to 76 days in 2016.
e IAR's November Housing Trends Report is based on
data from the IAR's housing statistics system, which updates
hourly based on MLS listings and local Realtor boards. e
report is released monthly and is available for all IAR members
and affiliates. For more information on the report or IAR, visit
