2 Shifting Markets ey say change is the only constant, and perhaps that's true, but we seem poised on the precipice of a seismic shift in our industry. And it's not simply one aspect of the industry that is in flux—the shift seems to come from all around us from the flurries of gossip floating through the air about the future of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau down to the very ground on which we stand. e tectonic plates deep beneath our feet seem to be shifting—those decades-old processes etched into our collective history and those age-old roles of the appraiser, the servicer, and the lender. In "Is Dodd-Frank Doomed?" writer Ryan Schuette takes on the subject of that behemoth congressional act that has continued to be the subject of intense debate since its enactment and has set the industry in a tailspin with strict rules rolled out over the past several years. Will it be tossed into the wind? Most likely not, but we could see major changes. Next, with writer Ernie Durbin as our guide, we take a look at "e Uber Effect," and how the "sharing economy" relates to our own industry with new shared valuation processes and alternative appraisals. Appraisers are finding, in the words of Dylan, their "old road is rapidly aging. In "Changing with the Times," Joe Iafigliola embraces change exploring "change management with a process and case study to illustrate the benefits. Of course, some changes are met with speculation and suspicion. In "Raising a Red Flag," Craig Nazzaro lays out a list of concerns and questions some harbor for the recent influx of nonbank servicers in the mortgage market. Lastly, in our Property Valuation Index, we profile some of the leaders in property valuation, those who are adapting to new technologies and embracing new processes to better serve the industry. Whether it's the regulatory atmosphere, the role of the appraiser, or the influx of nonbank servicers, change is all around us. While change nearly always comes with a little apprehension, we are hopeful for the future of our industry and the future of the American Dream.
