INDUSTRYILLUSTRATED DS News tracks the latest and most relevant industry surveys and data to keep you in the know. This month we take a look at a select group of markets deemed "improving," as computed by an index measurement developed by First American and the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB). The two organizations created the Improving Markets Index (IMI) just over a year ago, in September 2011. The index identifi es metropolitan areas that have shown improvement from their respective troughs in employment, housing prices, and housing permits for at least six consecutive months, indicating improving economic health. NAHB/FIRST AMERICAN IMPROVING MARKETS INDEX (IMI) are represented on the October list. The dataset below highlights the top 20 markets in each measured category based on growth from their respective troughs. The full list and supporting data for all 103 improving markets can be found at NAHB.org/IMI. A total of 103 housing markets across the United States qualifi ed for the IMI in October, up from 99 markets listed as improving in September. It's the largest number of metros on the IMI since it was created.
