2 Preparing for the Next Generation In this ever-changing industry, keeping abreast of trends, aware of regulations, and on top of inopportune situations is imperative to keeping your business ahead of the game. is month we prep for the next generation, whether it be mortgage professionals or new tools and tech. In our May cover story, "Fresh Faces, New Ideas" we spoke with a cross-spectrum of experts and professionals from various corners of the industry to gauge the concern over the potentiality of baby boomers aging out of the workforce, and millennials arriving en masse to fill their space. Amy Keyser, VP of Human Resources for Arch Mortgage Insurance Company, states, "We're not a one-generational workforce, we're multi-generational. We can't build everything to appeal to one particular generation. It has to appeal to our entire workplace." Harrison Tropp, an Advisor at the Shea Barclay Group, explores compliance mandated insurance and weighs its effectiveness in protecting small to mid-sized law firms versus the burden it can present in "A Firm Hand." Tropp says, "e core of the debate comes down to the aspect of practicality. Is it practical, for example, for a law firm of five lawyers to purchase the same degree of insurance as a firm with 50 lawyers?" In "Keeping Pace," T. Robert Finley, a founding partner of Wright, Finley, & Zak, and Sonia Plesset Edwards, Senior Associate, explore the changes to the Property Assessed Clean Energy Program, created to address environmental concerns, but which exposed borrowers to higher-risks of default, and the new laws aiming to solve them. Hurricane Harvey's landfall in Texas left a path of wreckage totaling to $125 billion in damage, with 200,000 homes in South Texas damaged, 12,000 destroyed, and 40,000 people displaced. "When the Waters Recede" explores the partnership of the National Mortgage Servicing Association (NMSA) with HOPE NOW to help affected homeowners continue working toward recovery. "HOPE NOW was born out of the financial crisis as an alliance of mortgage market participants including servicers, counselors, investors, and regulators," said Ray Barbone, EVP Bank Operations, BankUnited, and Chairman of the NMSA. "ey played a vital role in assisting millions of borrowers with staying in their homes during the crisis. It is only natural that HOPE NOW extends that same assistance to the families and communities impacted by the devastation of Hurricane Harvey." In this month's Loss Mitigation Services Guide, we introduce the top loss mit tech and services providers in the mortgage industry—those that leverage technology to achieve optimal resolutions and that remain dedicated to providing open communication throughout the process. e only way to stay aware is to stay informed.
