The Arizona Department of Financial Institutions closed the bank on April 5, appointing the FDIC as receiver. To protect depositors, Gold Canyon Bank's estimated $44.2 million in deposits were assumed by First Scottsdale Bank, N.A., which also agreed to purchase essentially all of the failed bank's $45.2 million in assets. The FDIC estimates the Arizona bank's closing will cost its Deposit Insurance Fund about $11.2 million.
